A Tourist Guide to Koh Phangan

Koh Pha Ngan is an island famed for its natural beauty and of course the monthly Full Moon parties. The island is located in Surat Thani province, the southern part of Thailand. Of all of Thailand's islands, this is probably the best that attracts the backpackers and young generations who prefer a bohemian atmosphere.

Koh Pha Ngan's tourists infrastructure is good enough with a variety of accommodation choices. However, most of the accomodation are in the budget to mid-price range category. While some development is toward to satisfy package holiday tourists visiting from Samui, upmarket resorts are quite in low numbers. Koh Pha Ngan is the island without tuk-tuks, go-go girls, five-star hotels, traffic jams or crowds of package tourists.

Had Rin is the most famous and popular beach and where most of the tourists find a budget accommodation in the area, too. It is the place for the famous Full moon, Half moon and even Black moon parties. These bohemian style full moon parties make Koh Pha Ngan so famous in the world. The beach is clean and lovely, but lanes of internet cafe, cheap restaurants and bungalows are crowded at some periods. It is better for you to arrive the island several days before the Full Moon period unless you end up asking for a room to stay.

Majority of tourists will see a first thing in the town at Tong Sala since it is the port where the main ferriy stops at. Tong Sala is the capital of the island. In spite of all the tourists come through the area, the town is not over developed and still remains a traditional Thai atmosphere a lot. Yet, a great range of eateries, roadside food vendors and food markets are someting special to see in genuie local areas of Thailand.

Tong Nai Pan is situated in the northeast of the Pha Ngan island and is home to the beaches of Ao Tong Nai Pan Yai and Ao Tong Nai Pan Noi. These beaches are very popular with the bohemian younger people. The area is not yet over developed with no high-rise apartment, condos or hotels blocks to spoil the beautiful skyline. They say that it is the loveliest part of the island with unspoiled natural beauties. Then, Had Yao and Had Salad beaches are also popular beach areas which is located the northwest of the island. The areas offer good choices of accommodation. And Chalaoklum Bay in the Northern part has been keeping traditional fishing character and offers some resorts.
