Hua Hin Thailand travel guide - Tourist information

Hua Hin is about 220kms south from the capital city of Bangkok. It takes you for about 3 hours from Bangkok to Hua Hin Seaside Resort. The Hua Hin is less touristy than the Southern islands and ideal for tourists who do not have enough time to fly to the south. Here you have less activities and people than the southern islands but with lovely beaches, great surf, and some natural attractions, it is very popular among local Thais expecially Bangkians to have a few days trip to the beach in Huahin.

It can be said that Hua Hin was first discovered by King Rama IV in the middle of the Nineteenth century because he was the king established a summer palace in Hua Hin which now is Phra Nakhon Khiri National Park on Khao Wang hill. With the beautiful white sands, its peaceful and quieter beaches and atmosphere the Hua Hin has been the most popular weekend vacation place among Thais and low-key tourists. With these popularity, there are fine family-friendly restaurants and resorts in the center of Hua Hin town. Nightlife can be lively with even a bar girl scenes, too.

Activities in the beach areas


There are plenty of watersports available in Hua Hin, such as surfing (if the tides are right), banana boat, jet ski, water ski, kayak (canoe), speed boat, body boarding, island trip, night fishing and more. Apart from the water sports, you can be experiencing elephant trekking, para sailing, parachute, and the most famous one is horse riding along the beach.

Popular attractions in Hua Hin


Bazaar, night market and local markets: Especially Nightmarket is famous in Hua Hin. Many fresh seafood restaurants, local fashions and sweets, variety of local handicrafts and souvenirs, the night market is a must in Hua Hin. Most of the stalls open around 18:00 and close around 23:00, but some food stalls are open till dawn. Besides night market, there are some day markets in Hua Hin. Two of the most accessible markets for tourists are right next to the night market, and at the Grand Hotel. Those market sell an amazingly variety of Thai foods, meats, fish, seafood, vegetable, fruits and other daily groceries and you will see real local thai life.

Khao Hin Thoen Stone Park


Namtok (waterfalls) Pa La-U: The beautiful multi-tiered rock waterfalls are located the forest near Kaengkrajan national park. Some levels of the waterfall can be reached along a trekking trail parallel to the stream. In the morning, you can watch butterflies, wild animals and several species of rare birds.

Khao Chong Krachok (Mirror Mount): It is located on the north of the town. There is small pagoda, temples and playful monkeys on the hill. The lofty temple on the top of the hill offers a spalendid panorama of the coastline and seascape.

Khao Takiap: Khao Takiap is a hill located the southern end of Hua Hin and is only 4 kms from the town. Anybody can go up the top of the hill and enjoy delightful views during the day and night. There is a temple named Wat Khao Takiap on top of the hill. The giant golden Buddha Statue standing against the cliff has become a landmark of Hua Hin.

Wat Kamphaeng Laeng: It is a remain of a large Khmer Hindu temple. The 3 Prang is the architecture influenced by the Khamer of Bayon period.

Kao Sam Roi Yot National Park is a marine national park in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province. It is located about 60kms from the center of Hua Hin. With its unusual topography and mangroves and beaches, this is a good day trip place from Hua Hin. The name Khao Sam Roi Yot means mountains with 300 peaks, which describes the landscape of the park quite well.

Maruekatayawan Palace: The Palace was built by King Rama VI in 1923 with teakwood. This wooden palace is a unique design of the raised-floor, three sections facing the sea. It is mixed Thai and European styles of arquitecture. It is open to the public daily from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Klai Kangwon Palace: The Palace was built in the north of Hua Hin by King rama VII and is consisted of 3 Spanish style mansions facing the sea.
The name of the palace literally means far from worries in Thai. It is open to the public daily from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Butterfly Garden: It is located opposite of Klai Kangwon Palace. Here you can see various species of butterflies, birds, flowers and herbal plants.

Golf: There are plenty of golf courses in Hua Hin. 8 top quality courses are within a 30 minute drive from the center of the town and more are still reachable easily enough for a day's play.

Hua Hin Railway Station: The railway station is one of the oldest stations in Thailand which was built in te reign of King RamaVI. It is a unique Thai style architecture with red colour.
